Early last year the Tora Sumi concept was conceived in a Balmain café by good two good friends.
Together they have brought to life an idea and made their dream a reality.
381 Darling Street Balmain has been transformed from a bland shop to a contemporary art & ink space.
Most Tattoo Parlors traditionally follow a formula with loads of flash art on the walls and bright fluorescent lights and less than friendly environment.
They have chosen to do something totally different - an art gallery, studio, and retail space where all are welcome to come and be inspired.

Our Manifesto
Tora Sumi is a space for the creative collaboration of art and ink that will inspire exciting ideas and outcomes across a diverse range of art forms.
It has been said galleries should be lively places, full of energy and new experiences and two-way conversations between artists and viewers. Where art should enlighten, challenge and comfort the senses. We agree.
We believe Tattooing is the soulful practice of permanently galvanizing a symbolic idea or belief. It is a holistic experience touching on the emotional, physical, spiritual and mental.
And so we will provide a helpful, friendly and empathetic enviroment where the freedom of expression is encouraged and celebrated.
